Windows Backup fails if file path length exceeds 260 characters

Consider the following scenario:

You customize a backup operation to back up some files on a computer that is running Windows OS.You select some files that you want to include in the backup operation. The path length of one selected file is longer than 260 characters.

In this scenario, the backup operation fails after the backup operation is started. This issue occurs because the Windows Block Level Backup Engine service (Wbengine.exe) handles file paths that are longer than 260 characters incorrectly.

To address this issue Windows 7 users can download and apply Fix311056 from KB982502. Windows 11/10 users can enable Win32 Long Paths and see if that helps them.
